In 2008, Daryl Mackin was making arrangements for the birthday party of his son, when he suddenly remembered the grandson of his next-door neighbors, whose father had been killed in Iraq a few months earlier. He decided that he needed to be there on that young man's birthday with a gift to honor his fallen father. From this inspirational beginning, A Soldier's Child Birthday Foundation is now an official 501 (c)(3) foundation supporting the families of fallen and wounded soldiers.
